If that is how you define manipulation, I completely agree with you. But that is a fair game, otherwise the cheerleading in this thread may be construed as manipulation by the shorts as well. Everyone has a right to express their opinions and analyses.

Solution, of course, is not to be influenced by short-term price fluctuations and/or media boom-bust stories, do one's own research and invest for the long-term in solid companies.

But price manipulation via market maker collusion is a different story altogether. I do not think that it exists for a liquid large cap like DELL (or at least it will need a Soros-like capital in billions to achieve that as someone - unfortunately I do not remember who - noted, which is unrealistic). And that is illegal too.
