Chuzz, In my original posting all I was saying is that I believe the Analysts do have access to data and forecasting models. I really don't believe that they pull their recommendations out of the air...or elsewhere. <ggg>
Re:<<Perhaps my assumptions are in error.>> I don't believe they are in error other than the accuracy to be found with any assumptions;ie, +/- 5, 10, etc. percent.
I too found Nile's comments to be "strange" for two reasons. First, his timing would suggest that he wanted to drive down the stock's price and then buy it back in pre-market trading on Tuesday. (Of course, I'm not saying that this is the case. It would raise serious questions about SEC regulations and ethics.) Second, as you said, his report flies in the face of the IDC, Dataquest, and other research reports recently released. In addition, the other tech companies reported great earnings and growth. So, why should Dell fall-off the "cliff"?
In any case, we'll all know the situation when the market closes on Tuesday.
Thanks for your detailed response.
