I've heard testimonies by Jews, who before they became Christians had never ever read the old testament for themselves. Heritage takes precedence over anything and everything else because being born Jewish meant that you were spontaneously special in the eyes of God and that everyone else was just a gentile. To read the Old testament was not necessary because the promises were already there and nothing else was needed. If you felt something was lacking in your life you could always just resort to the wisdom of the local rabbis.

Jesus said, unless you are born again you shall not enter into the kingdom of God. Have you given this statement much consideration?
