I agree Benny Goodman made his mark but I would give as much or more credit to Glenn Miller. His "In The Mood" to me was the forerunner to later rock 'n' roll. Just this past week was the anniversary of the very first gold record. It was "Chattanooga Choo-Choo" in 1942. And on and on with many more hits.
