I think the CCUR sale that you mentioned in your post is in regards to CCUR's sale of a real time server and RTOS for the purposes of simulation. Their system will be used to test and simulate the anit-lock brakes. This is different from having an embedded RTOS installed.

However, CCUR does have a robust RTOS in Powermax. CCUR has, up until the end of 1998, remained primarily a hardware player in the real time space. Their Powermax OS runs on CCUR hardware (Turbohawk, Nighhawk, etc). Two years ago they opened their RTOS to any Motorola single board (PowerPC). While I don't consider their recent auto industry sale to be any type of threat to Wind, CCUR has finally made their Powermax OS romable. They also have a great tool set for developers. My understanding is that they are just beggining to win sales in the embedded space for this new romable product (in the medical device area).

CCUR probably could have done far more with their RTOS then they have, but their focus has been on developing their VOD (video on demand) business and most of their R & D spending has gone to this area. It is likely that the company or the real time division will be sold this year. Powermax OS could become a real competitor in certain areas if owned by a company willing to spend the money and with the programming talent. I would pay attention to who buys this company or the RT division. Their OS and tools are a diamond in the rough from and embedded standpoint.
