Online experience not compelling
Researchers at SRI Consulting's Media Futures Program conclude online and Web programmers have a long way to go before they're competing for eyeballs of the masses. The Menlo Park, Ca. organization reports "Of the 27.6 million adults in the United States using commercial on-line services (6.3 million children also venture on-line), only a fourth spend an hour or more on-line during a typical day. Half go online less than 30 minutes a day." SRI also finds reason for optimism for backers of WebTV-like products, saying its research shows at least 50% of Americans frequently or almost always watch television alone. SRI says this "removes a potential barrier for products that turn the television into a display for browsing the World Wide Web because it indicates fewer conflicts between family members over using the same TV set."

The market is expanding quite obviously. Our conection with Web-TV seems important as everything I have read so far indicates people are waiting for the explosion of Web-TV. But some things to me aren't clear. Just being affiliated as a possible service provider with the web service doesn't mean we are THE service provider. Everywhere, I hear about Web-TV's $19.95 monthly connection fee...but where is FTEL's name? Shouldn't we be standing out if our connection to them was so important? No one else has posed this question and I am usually a reader, not a speaker in the stock market, soo maybe the question is a foolish one. In any case....any thoughts?
