E, You haven't said how your sister's attitude about the rapist changed after seeing his distraught wife and mother. How long ago was this? Has he been released? If so, does your sister worry about his returning for revenge?

By the way, I don't see you and Christine being that far apart on the death penalty issue. You both, like me, would favor executing the murderer if it was done in a fair and equitable manner. You would like a moratorium until this is achieved, which you also stated would never happen. Christine says, yes it is unfair, but there would be fewer repeat murders if we have executions now. I tend to go with the latter view because I don't see any change in the system for a long time. With your view there will be innocent lives lost who will be executed, but they will be because of error. In Christine's view there will be innocent lives lost because of those released from prison who will kill again. Those deaths are not because of error. They can be prevented, and as a bonus we will have a safer society. Life in prison is as unlikely for all murderers as is speedy and accurate trials.
