Z,

<<. Finally concluded that it sounds like SEG hired a silver tounged consultant to tell them everything they already know about the business. >>

Actually not the case Z. I know some of the guys on the FOF team. It as been an internal effort all the way.

<<But its not clear to me that these aren't all the same issues the industry has been trying to optimize for years.>>

I started to say something about this in the post and decided to wait till someone commented. You didn't disappoint.<G> I agree that in some ways, all of this sounds like motherhood and apple pie. All, except, the STW part and the identification of the market phases with a strategy. I don't believe it would be that tough to do actually and it makes some sense. However, SEG also acknowledged the importance of a near term cost focus so this will take some time to play out I suspect. As to the charge of "stating the obvious" I think it is fair to say that Seagate isn't going to make a presentation that suggests all aspects of their strategy but also fair to say they were candid about focus. Yogi is right that Six Sigma is all the items on the list. The question is how to integrate it and do it. Thats the part SEG isn't telling. <G>

best,
Stitch
