Re: Market acceptance of 600Mhz RDRAM
Let's not all fall into the trap that happens to a lot of high-tech marketing departments (and I see this a lot).
Over 98% of the people out there who would buy/need Rambus systems when they're introduced have no idea (none, nada, zip, zilch) that there was ever a plan to roll out an 800Mhz version of the product first. None. At All. And they're not going to care. The marketing departments at INTC, DELL, CPQ, HWP, AMD, etc. are going to make their announcements and potential customers are going to get very excited. They're not going ask whether the speed of the memory will ever be faster because the answer is always "yes, computers will get faster, better, and cheaper". Wait for the if you want, or go ahead and get this one today, which is a significant leap over what has existed until now.
We know much, much more than the vast majority of the average buyer out there. I'll bet the guys in Detroit could tell me many horror stories about the cars they build, and about all the new features that didn't quite make it into this model. But I still buy their cars. And will continue to upgrade as they bring out newer models with better features.
Relax. It'll happen.
