We've had three gas taxes on the federal level already in the last ten years. If I had to choose whether the oil used in that time or the tax money was the more squandered, I'd have to say the tax money.

150 years proven reserves does not say that's all that's left. Probably several hundred years. But again, that's no excuse to throw it away. Given the breakthroughs in technology over the last hundred years, I would have a hard time believing we'd still be stuck entirely on oil even 50 years from now though. --Alan
