However
I will say that I have purchased from both B&N and Amazon and B&N has never been
able to make a worthwhile recommendation (in fact, initially they didnt even feature that
technology).

Michelle,

You are correct. Initially, AMZN had a huge headstart on technology compared to BKS. The has closed or at least is closing.

and I attend 3 book clubs where -everybody- prefers
Amazon to Barnes and Noble - why do you think that is (since they generally cost the
same)? Primarily technology and website design, as well as some promotional differences

I took a logic class in college and one false argument to state something is accurate is that everyone else agrees. There is a name for this false method of making an argument but it has been so many years since I have attended college, I can't at recall the name. It is not a big deal.

I do no thave a love affair with BKS, BGP or any other of the online book retailers. I am not an avid reader anymore. I spend too much time on the net. My wife reads more than anyone I have ever met not to have a contest with you:-). She orders from BKS but likely that is due to my losses and her knowing my passion for hating AMZN. She did order from AMZN on two different occasions a few years ago. The books came with the Amazon bookmarks that are currently straightpinned to the verticle blinds in my office. I want you to know she pinned them there and added more pins to them as my losses increased when I was short AMZN. Lately they are just pinned there left alone<G>

As you know, I no longer have a position in AMZN. My opinion is AMZN will fail long term for a variety of reasons that I have posted here for years. I do not believe that AMZN's database, delivery, etc. is inferior to anyones competing with them at least in the book area. Their video department is quite inadequate to Reel.com but that is not going to make or break them. I never gave their music department enough of a lookover to judge it at all.

There is one other item that may make your friends in the bookclub prefer Amazon. They may believe it is "cool" to buy from Amazon. That was an initial reaction when Amazon went online and a lot of that exists today. I am stating this is the cause.

I believe I am easy to get along with and mean no disrespect to anyone except the management at AMZN, the VCs and the underwriting firms. There are many that prefer to buy from Amazon for whatever the reason may be but I believe that will not save them long term. neither will the recent bond placement.
