I used Nobel Prizes as a manner of speaking. Almost any prof at Harvard, MIT, Stanford or UCBerkeley would whip ass on a mano a mano with any one of their classmates "who could" and got a 9-5 job.

The chances of getting a "mediocre" situation, as you put it, are so much greater than living in the ivory tower wonderland you describe, that glenn's "those who can't, teach" argument is statistically more truthful.

By the same token, the majority of people who and get a job must be, by definition, mediocre.

But I do agree that ending up in a mediocre college is statistically more likely and that in those places it is often the case that "those who can work, those who can't, teach"....
