Telecommunications companies SHOULD be compensated for the infrastructur on which they have spent a vast amount of capital. By the same token, it makes since to charge more to those who derive the most benefit out of that infrastructure. The inevitable march of deregulation will eventually bring us to something akin to a free market situation...you'll have to pay to play.

At that point companies like AOL, who own 0% of the telcomm network, will have to survive as content and service providers, or not at all.
