Earlie, how can you compare the old ATT and Microsoft. ATT never had competition. MSFT has always had competition, yes, even in the
OS. They simply destroyed the competition in the open market. Long before the questionable business practices of the recent internet era,
MSFT was actually the big underdog with Windows. OS/2, introduced in 1987, was a technically superior solution until Windows 3.1 was introduced in 1993. Imagine a 6 year head start. Something only IBM could squander. And of course MAC OS, introduced in 1984, was superior to anything MSFT had until Win95 in 1995.
