He now is happily running off a Pentium II.> Your son seems to be as technically challenged as you are and apparently does not know that it is really hard to plug K6 into a slot-1 board. You should have better success to boot it up by plugging K6 into AC outlet. Have more happy experience by posting outright lies and stupid assertions. Make it RAS.
