Chip,
Now that the impeachment trial of Bill C. is over. The Republicans have turned their attention to the business of the country....
"Y2K + 2 = HJR14
And now, Washington's response to the Y2K computer problem. As the millennium approaches and fears mount as to what will happen to us on New Year's Day, lawmakers have proposed a simple way to temporarily calm everyone's fears -- move New Year's to January 3.
House Joint Resolution 14, sponsored by Reps. John Linder (R-Ga.) and David Dreier (R-Calif.), notes the year 2000 computer problem "may undermine the ability of computers to function correctly, and cause a disruption in business, government, and other important services."
The problem is that January 1, 2000, falls on a Saturday, the lawmakers point out, "and hence, in accordance [with federal law], the New Year's Day holiday would, but for this resolution, be observed on Friday, Dec. 31, 1999."
So, "in order to provide the public and technology professionals with an additional day, prior to the start of the workweek, to begin repairs on failed computer systems . . . the New Year's Day holiday . . . shall be deemed to occur on Jan. 3, 2000 . . ."
What's more, stores will be open one more day for a little last-minute shopping to stockpile water, food, fuel and some extra ammo . . ." . . . .
Chip, just in case you thought I made this up...
