Lively discussion and IMO fair exchange of ideas without too much hype. The question of ATM/IP being rolled out IMO are not a question of if but when. The ref. article doen't factor in the fact that you have to have the broadband capacity from one end to the other. In the US the availability of broadband to the basement soho and even many Corp. hasn't been in place. Without the last mile you could have all the pipe you wanted in the middle but if the end user couldn't stuff it through his/her wall then it did no good. In the last year much has happened, The availability testing and now rollout of cable and xdsl technology is occuring in earnest. The nay sayers just don't get it imo. The net took a while to catch on and so will broadband due to added cost. As the backbone is deployed and switching employeed the process will accelerate. Who will opt to drive a moped when they can afford a jags performance and features for not much more money. Some interesting charts to puruse. NN has not been a good ROE vehicle over the last several years. IMO this was due to reliance/dependence on old technologies which they no longer led in. Then a poor acquisition put a dent in the company that took years to digest. Meanwhile the strenghts of the company TM technology machine efforts paid off. NN took the lead in emergine broadband technology. The company wsstill suffered because of the lack of marketing saavy and the delay in the appearance of last mile tech. Now we are here. Lutz has brought a new street and marketing saavy to the company. He has resurrected the relationship with Siemens and laid the groundwork for the company to sell sell sell. If I look forward I see NN gettting a big piece of the broadband pie. How much, how big? I don't know but, it will be a big pie and NN will get a nice slice. Lets see where the stock and sales are 6 and 12 months from now. The broadband rollout is for real all these contracts are not going to evaporate. All the connectivity is not going to stop.
Some interesting comparisons fyi

I enjoythese discussions. Emotion tend to move markets in the short term but fundamentals will shape the future. I will continue to add or weakness. If I am wrong so be it but that is what makes it a market.
