I took the liberty to copy a note from an xdsl news thread. Interesting perspective.

Hi Gang,
Just back from almost two weeks on business in Malaysia and Hong Kong. I really need to do those kind of trips frequently enough to keep calibrated on bandwidth and cost model expectations. In terms of DSL technology, as much as things are different they remain the same. Local bandwidth roll outs of even VDSL speeds are still limited by the cost model of the Internet gateways to the rest of the world. What was amazing is that the time lines for accelerating the backbone are from what I've seen, tracking with where we are here in the US. The speed at which deployment of the DSL technology in general is catching on is mind boggling. This particular mailing list is recognized as "The Source" for much of the non-vendor-specific day to day information dissemination. I personally was flattered by the name recognition that comes with our joint participation here. My guess is that between the actual first person membership on this list and the thousands to whom the "juicier" posts are distributed may well
be reaching consistently the 20,000 level or higher..... It kinda makes you hesitate and think about the relevance of a post before doing it.

That said, (especially the relevance part) does anybody know if one of our professor friends or industry gurus has designated an appropriate acronymor generic name for what we old-timers from back in the 70's affectionately called "Blimp-Net"?? This is the concept of putting either a balloon (Blimp maybe) or other aircraft (manned or robotic) on station above the weather over a given metropolitan area. The effect is that of having almost a geosynchronous satellite like communications model only much higher power levels, lower endpoint costs, and almost no noticeable latency in the transmission path. Of course there are trade-offs in terms of potential system reliability and even spectrum allocation today, but these systems are coming hard and fast using several technologies and vehicle platforms...... So to repeat the question, is there a generic name that anybody knows that has been adopted this concept model????? Thanks (it's good to be back home)

Out of the 26,000 recommendations that are tracked by First Call
Corporation, less than 1% are Sell ratings, according to Joe Cooper, a
senior research analyst at First Call.
I think most know that analyst those that work for underwriters and investment bankers don't like to say negative things about companies that may affect future relationships with the company. If the point is its hard to judge by an analyst, I agree. I wouldn't buy or sell a stock based on analysts rec. as they too often have their own agenda.
