Singapore, Feb. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Computer makers shipped 11 percent more personal computers to Asia-Pacific markets in the fourth quarter of 1998, compared with the third quarter, the Singapore Business Times reported, citing a survey by International Data Corp. Still, falling prices cut revenue by 5.2 percent even as a record 2.89 million units were sold. Compaq Computer Corp. was the biggest seller in Asia-Pacific with 8.5 percent of market share, followed by International Business Machines Corp., the survey said.
Computer-related companies such as Compaq Computer, the world's biggest maker of personal computers, and Seagate Technology Inc., which makes hard disks, have forecast improved Asia-Pacific sales in 1999, indicating that the region may be recovering from its economic problems.
