Dell's Inspiron Line is Storage Mecca for Mobile Computing Needs

10 GB and 14 GB Hard Drives, 4X DVD-ROM Drive Give Customers Freedom to Play, Work

ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 1999--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL - news), the world's leading direct computer systems company, today expanded the storage options available for Inspiron(tm) notebook PCs with 10- and 14-gigabyte(a) (GB) hard drives and one of the first 4X DVD-ROM drives for portables on the market.

The new options help home and small business customers explore emerging Internet and digital imaging technologies with ample storage space and the ability to access large data files quickly.

The 14 GB hard drive can store the equivalent of 9,700 floppy disks. The 10 GB hard drive can store nearly 7,000 floppy disks worth of data. Now, hard disk hogs, like digital images, computer games and Internet downloads, can be accommodated for home and small business customers on the go. Additional customer benefits include sufficient hard drive space for future software needs, such as Microsoft Windows® 2000 and Office® 2000.

''With the explosion of the Internet and digital imaging, notebook users can get in on the fun,'' said Stephan Godevais, vice president and general manager of Inspiron. ''Dell's Inspiron line continues to establish itself as a technology leader meeting customers' maturing technology needs at aggressive prices.''

With increased storage capacity, small businesses can spend more time being productive and less time worrying about whether critical applications and files will fit on their systems. Matthew Wendel, president of Wendel's Way Inc., a concierge service in Austin, Texas, added, ''As a small business person, working alone or with a small staff, the added storage and mobility will give me the opportunity to have my entire business at my finger tips no matter where I go. There are days when I have to be away from my office, but I can't be without my contact database, menus and recipes, event plans, or videos and images of past events. Now it can all be right here.''

The desktop-alternative Inspiron 7000 notebook PC will be available with the 14 GB hard drive starting at $2,949. The mobile office Inspiron 3500 will be available with the 10 GB hard drive starting at $2,249. The 4X DVD-ROM drive is a $249 optional upgrade. Additional information is available at dell.com.

Ranked No. 125 among the Fortune 500 companies and No. 363 in the Fortune Global 500, Dell Computer Corporation is the world's leading direct computer systems company, based on revenues of $16.8 billion for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures and customizes products and services to customer requirements and offers an extensive selection of software and peripherals. Information on Dell and its products can be obtained through its toll-free number 800/388-8542 or by accessing the Dell World Wide Web site at www.dell.com.
