Re: "If the part was ready for production, it would be in production. The fact that a part is not in production indicates that there are still problems to be resolved."

True for a catchup company but not true for a leader. It's clear Intel could ship 400-450Mhz Celerons at any time however for a leader, marketing reasons may prevent shipping.

Remember though, we were told on this thread that the K6-3 was ready to go in Q4 but AMD was holding it back so as not to confuse the customer during the xmas season. Then we were told AMD was holding it back so they could clear out excess die inventory.

Re: "Engineering managers make aggressive estimates about when the unknown problem will be resolved. Their bonuses depend on doing this. Generally speaking, they will miss their goals. "

While this is true, it think it is plain now that AMD has intentionally LIED in many of their public statements. Jerry has the same credibility as Bill Clinton.

Re: "The apparent slippages of K6-3 are not a failure on AMD's part. From an engineers point of view, AMD has been doing extremely well."

You're right. From an Engineering standpoint AMD has done extremely well, considering their resources. However this is a business. AMD can't stay in business by just doing good engineering.
