2/15/99 - Dubai to manufacture "world"s longest" gold chain <Picture> DUBAI, Feb 15 (AFP) - The Gulf emirate of Dubai said Monday it will manufacture "the world"s longest" gold chain for its four-week shopping festival which starts March 18. The chain weighing 50 kilograms (110 pounds) will be worth half a million dollars. It will be sold off in sections of whatever length the customer wants. Dubai, which prides itself as "the city of gold" and is a leading redistribution centre for the precious metal, also aims to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the world"s "biggest dining table" and "longest sofa." The emirate hopes to attract more than two million visitors for the annual festival, the fourth of its kind. Apart from the Guinness bids, the main highlight will be the Dubai World Cup, dubbed "the world"s richest horse race" with a purse of five million dollars. It is to be run on March 28.
