>>do I like monopolies...? Yes...with ketchup!<<

and a side of fries, too ;-)

good points. in a real sense, every business has a monopoly. i can't open a 7-11 on the corner b/c there already is one. they have a monopoly on that corner.

i don't think the govt (believe me, i'm not thrilled with govt anything!) is upset w/ msft re being an os monopoly. neither am i. however, i absolutely believe they leveraged that monopoly to crunch their competition.

what is the logical conclusion? well, any serious new app that is developed or old app that becomes too competitive shows up as a msft product with a mandatory icon on the os. this is enough to crunch the competition. innovation stops (why do it when msft will crunch you in the end) and so does any real competition. when msft owns every software market that is successful... they'll lower prices b/c bill gates doesn't like profits. NOT!

that is what i don't like. if i held msft shares and focused solely on my wallet then maybe that would bias me enough to want innovation stopped down the road. it shouldn't, but maybe it would...
