Re Microsoft Y2K

Hi Roger,

Basically, you have to start with your computer and run a free product like Rightime

rightime.com

Then if it passes, or you complete the fix, you have to make sure that you have the Win 95 or Win 98 Y2K fixes from Microsoft.

Microsoft has a pretty good Y2K site where you enter your product and then see what you have to do to upgrade or modify.

microsoft.com

Then you move up to your application software. In some cases like Excel 7, you have to change your default date format (in Windows) to make it 'compatible'.

Not too bad as long as you take it a step at a time. The IT people may have it all (or most of it) figured out and just be waiting for another network upgrade, etc to implement it.

However, new problems are going to continue to crop up ... I just read about an April 2001 problem that Microsoft has recently discovered that still has to still be fixed.

Y2K is a can of worms, but we will all muddle through it. although it might be very bullish for whoever makes Rolaids, etc. It's just a question about whether we will go a little hungry and freeze our butts while doing it.

John

PS - Thanks for relating your early Y2K experience.
