Michael you may be correct with respect to the web technologies but that is certainly not true with regard to the ERP and SCM/Logistics software implementation. You can see the difference in margins for Dell vs. Compaq. Compaq has been unable to get a Sap implementation online for years (well they have one but its not efficient). This in comparison to Dells customized I2 implementation. I think the right logistics package can shave 1-2% off the cost of sales for a company like amzn - but you are going to have to write it yourself with a bunch of high priced ERP consultants. This is all back office stuff. Distribution and mfg software just isnt that sexy so nobody talks about it - in Amzns case I think it really matters. I dont know how far along they are.... hopefully they didnt go Sap (but Im biased)
