Freewest and Sparton to Drill Folson Lake Platinum, -Palladium Copper and Nickel Showing in East Bull Lake Intrusion, Ontario
MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Freewest Resources Canada Inc. and joint venture partner Sparton Resources Inc. (SPTN: CDN) are pleased to announce that a diamond drill has been mobilized onto the Folson Lake PGE- Cu+Ni property located in Gerow Township approximately 80 km west of Sudbury, Ontario. The 20 claim (320 hectare) property covers part of the East Bull Lake Intrusion.
The drill progam will test a surface showing discovered in August, 1998. The showing consists of fine-grained, disseminated sulphides within the gabbroic matrix of the Inclusion-Bearing Zone. This intrusive interval occurs near the base of the East Bull Lake Intrusion and has been identified by the Ontario Geological Survey as a favourable horizon for platinum group element (PGE) and associated copper and nickel (Cu+Ni) mineralization.
Of the 37 grab samples collected from three blast trenches, 18 of the samples returned combined palladium-platinum values in excess of 1.0 g/t. They also assayed anomalous silver, gold, copper and nickel. The best sample returned 6.6 g/t palladium, 2.8 g/t platinum, 8.3 g/t silver, 0.3 g/t gold, 1.79 percent copper and 0.66 percent nickel. A check assay of this sample done at a second laboratory gave 7.0 g/t palladium, 1.2 g/t platinum, 14.0 g/t silver, 0.6 g/t gold, 2.73 percent copper and 0.46 percent nickel.
Magnetic (MAG) and horizontal loop electomagnetic (HLEM) geophysical surveys were recently completed. The MAG survey indicates that the Inclusion-Bearing Zone has a strike length through the property of at least 2 km. The HLEM survey outlines a weak conductor 450 m in length which passes through the showing. A second weak conductor, 650 m long, has been identified 125 m south of the showing. This geophysical feature will also be tested by drilling.
