Spots

now you know what it's supposed to
say, right?

Right.... now that you have explained the lingo(s)

And of course
save the boot.ini file you have.

you mean this one...

[boot loader]
timeout=0
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINNT0

I understood you to say to replace it with..

boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="NT Workstation 4.0"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="NT Workstation 4.0 [VGA mode]" /basevideo /sos

Why save the first? I thought it was partial.
or
If the replacement boot.ini file will give me a choice of NT on IDE1 in
Winnt or NT on IDE2 in Winnt0, with a default to Winnt on
IDE1 do I need my original file for the Winnt0 option?

Can two separate boot.ini files for the same bootup coexist like that?

I thought I was starting to understand just when my house of cards collapsed again<g>

Summary:
1. Do you mean by saving the boot.ini I have to mean have that and the new one both on C:?

2. Where is the reference to NT on IDE2 in Winnt0 in the boot.ini you posted?

OR if you can boot NT from the D drive then
you can edit boot.ini from there.

How about editing the ide 1 boot.ini right from primary nt on IDE 1? I'm in it now.

Clarence
