I can remember when I was in 6th grade, we wrote a composition about being stranded on an island. It had 3 parts. The first, how one got there, ie. ship wreck..., 2, How the person/persons survived ie. food, shelter..., and the 3rd, we told how we got off the island, or if the person/persons stayed there ie. Giligan?? :-) That was one of my favorite compositions. (3 compositions)

Another one that I enjoyed was when the teacher and her class made a gingerbread house. We then donated it to a children's hospital near to where we lived. We had to write about how it affected us, how it was built, the candy used...

We also entered a children's story contest where we wrote and illustrated our own books. That could be cool, and then they could maybe read and show the pictures to the elementary age students??

I hope that you can use some of these ideas!
