this would be time to buy. if lycos really is for sale to a suitor, then it's stuck with who shows up. the problem isn't valuation-- it had run up prior to the announcement-- but what shareholders think of the partner. shareholders were happy when excite was taken over by an "acceptable" company, but apparently the suitor here is "unacceptable" and everyone ran for the exit. the lower valuation on the shares now is the result of the sell off and holding out for 127 per share, which diller's group was willing to pay is really out of their power since it is the unhappy shareholders-- one poster claimed a whole generation of gen x investors-- who have driven the valuation down, not the companies or their management.
