<o.t.> G'day DMA - I know nothing about guns, but when you sez, "Machine guns have been outlawed since the 30's and even the NRA has no gripe with that", it seems NRA is disingenuous [adv apology if you are a NRA member] as even a gun ignorantus like myself a lot of so handguns can be easily converted ['reverted' maybe a better word] to some automatic weapons [as you may quickly realized, my clumsiness of terminologies is indicative of my ignorance, but hopefully it is true in the spirit of my statement] For instance, as the 60 Minutes segment shows, [I know, it is the same establishment who was blazed by *moses* himself as a stool set out to undermine NRA - *moses* did write a follow up letter to Mike Wallace though <g>] there are guns out side of the Chicago city limit which can be equipped with M16 clip.
Emotion aside, maybe your concerns are valid in some instances; however, be it NRA [which may require participation in a different thread to do you justice] or any extreme libertinian ideal, I personally do not think it is a helpless victim. Like the tobacco lobby, NRA wields a big stick inside the beltway.
Finally, as I ve said previously, I do not like categorization. Maybe the mind prefers simplicity, but blanket statement like NRA is for 2nd Amendment and the govt is against 2nd Amendment is good only for slogan, not a open minded intellectual [not that I have any] discussion.
