Sun and Oracle Dominate One Terabyte TPC-D Benchmark Starfire Server, Solaris Operating Environment, Sun StorEdge A5200 Array, And Oracle8i Database Collectively Raise the Datawarehousing and DSS Performance Bar
Sun's flagship Starfire server delivered 121,824.7 QppD@1000GB with throughput of 10,566.3 QthD@1000GB and a price/performance record of $283 QphD@1000GB at a five-year lifetime price of $10,161,744. The system, running Oracle8i release v8.1.5.2 and Solaris 2.6 Operating Environment software, was configured for this benchmark with 64 UltraSPARC(TM) II 400 MHz CPUs, each with a 4 MB external cache, and 60 GB of memory combined with seven Sun StorEdge A5200 and four A3000 Array disk subsystems totaling 9.6 TB of storage. The configuration is scheduled to be available August 1, 1999. Tests were conducted at Sun's Large Scale Computing Center in Beaverton, Oregon.
