Class action lawsuit against Gateway being considered. Who wants to join me in suing Gateway for bad computers and lost time and business using them. My losses alone are over $20,000. Not to mention aggravation and emotional distress.
I have had nothing but problem after problem with my Gateway Desktop.
Hard Drives fail, Windows 98 upgrades won't work on it. My Gateway crashes or freezes all the time. After calling Gateway tech support many times, nothing is improved. Same old polite but ineffective answers. They tell me to "reformat the hard drive" and "re-install all my programs and data." Luckily, I have not lost any large amounts of data yet.
I am a CPA and advanced in using computers. I recently purchased a Dell computer and it works great. If I have a question from Dell, I get good support, fast and from properly trained tech people. My experience with Gateway's support is that many of their technical support people are on the job less than 6 months. I spent over 200 hours trying to fix my Gateway to no avail so far.
Gateway can not fix my computer and they will not replace it (one last chance effort underway). All I can do is waste hours upon hours of time on their phone lines.
I believe that if my experience typical and not unusual that Gateway's advertising message is deceptive. Their advertising image is user friendliness, great support for life, etc. I have heard from many computer professionals that Gateway's computers are proprietary and not open enough in architecture. They say this proprietary hardware leads to crashes and problems when using certain other computer accessories and other programs. I have had this problem, even though all accessories were bought from Gateway (which you are forced to do if you want support with their system). For this and the other reasons stated above, Gateway needs to have great support. Gateway advertises the best support in the business. Well they certainly need it.
I'm sure many Gateway users have experienced the same problems that I have.
This message is two fold. To alert Gateway investors and traders about customer complaints and pending actions. Second, to enlist members for this considered class action lawsuit. We can pool our resources and hire a great attorney, possibly on a contingency fee.
Almost everyone I know who owns a Gateway has had problems and their experience has been similar. Gateway did not own up to the problems and fix them or made them first jump through so many time consuming hoops that even with the fixes if cost them untold amounts of money in lost time.
We can follow up this lawsuit with complaints to the individual state attorney generals, better business bureaus and the business and technology media.
If you are interested in considering participation in this potential class action lawsuit, please add you post here or send me a Private Message. We can appoint different involved people to work on different aspects of the lawsuit. Hopefully, one of you class action members will be an attorney. Otherwise, I can try to locate a good attorney to work on a contingency fee or a small retainer. After we launch our lawsuit with a large class action list of members, I imagine Gateway will give us all our money back and pay for our lost time and effort. |
