PERSPECTIVE

Please let me paint not only one picture of your people.
Please let me use more than one hue to express the range and depth of your color.
Though I use the broad strokes of expediency, I'll express your soulful beauty,
your forthright honesty, and your unconscious generosity.
With dignity, I'll recognize your humanity.
I won't blend your differences into a canvas of sameness.

I will not represent you as a likeness of my expectations
I will not impose my standards upon your expressions or character
For the picture I do not wish to paint is one where your representation is a sad reflection
of my worst aspects, my arrogance and my materialism.

I will proudly emphasis your distinctions
For has not the time come that differences no longer need divide us,
So that we may appreciate and learn from what we may contribute to one another

For through my eyes of an other

Where too many of my hue see depravity,
..........I see exuberance
Where too many of my color see consequence,
..........I see possibility
and where too many see a problem,
..........I see a vast and unlimited potential.
