Well, the program showed a whole bunch of guns that have no legitimate purpose except killing as many people as possible, and the segment certainly alleged that these guns were manufactured for criminals. There are a whole lot of criminals, incidentally, who want guns! The segment also showed Chicago undercover police dressed up like mafia members, black street gang members, outlaw biker chicks and militiamen, walking into gun stores in the Chicago area and buying these weapons of mass destruction with no questions asked. Perhaps someone else here saw the segment and could comment. In any event, the charge was that the gun makers make weapons specifically for these criminal markets.

I am not sure why you are so surprised at this, Lather. You seem to see the gun thing as a freedom issue, with Americans' rights being seriously abridged if we are not all allowed to blow each other away. However, doesn't it occur to you that this is also a HUGE business? Do you think gun manufacturers are simply doing their patriotic duty?

Here is the little blurb from the CBS website:

Taking Aim At The Gun Industry

When the undercover police Chicago Mayor Richard Daley sent into gun stores posing as criminals came out with all the firepower they wanted, it confirmed his worst suspicions. Now he's using that evidence in a $433 million lawsuit against the gun industry. Mike Wallace reports. Jonathan Wells is the producer.
