Bill: "Ditto" to your comments and recommendations on staying with the market leaders and investing for the long term. This will probably turn-off some of the people on other (internet) threads. My average "holding period" is probably 8 years. The best things I've done is to buy and hold great companies (MCI, now WCOM, MSFT and a few others). And you only need a few grandslams to do quite well. Good investing!
