I wouldn't underestimate AOL's brand name worldwide (have over 3M non-USA customers) nor would I underestimate XDSL. There is a major push on to get it deployed not only by the bells but also by CLECs & IXCs. I for one would not hesitate to sign up for ADSL at 640K for $60/mo including ISP and ADSL. My cost today is $40 so for $20 more, it's a no brainer. I'm actually sick of @Home saying service should be available by certain dates (like last Sept) and not delivering (lucky to get it this summer). Plus I hate the limitation on download time for video. This is a major reason why I'm interested in broadband and it is inexcusable that @Home limits it.

Having said this, I'm not crazy about AOL either - think their service is for my parents and my kids but not for me. That's still alot of people and my kids may continue to use them. Think about volume discounts for AOL users - 16M buyers on its way to probably close to 30M by end of the year would have alot of power & AOL could take a piece of every sale. AOL may be able to position itself such that the cost of belonging can be saved through the services provided.

I own stock in both and plan to hold for a number of years.
