You installed NT from an IDE '2' boot. However the recent problem
arose (maybe) from a restore rather than an install?

Correct and correct... I also made a Di image during this period.

I wonder if it was a standard boot.ini file or if it may have had an extra
line or two in it from install attempts.

I don't know. The first time I looked at it was when Spots asked to see it. It was that short little thing with no OS indicated and the '0' timeout

I do recall the press space bar option for previous hardware profile or something to that
affect.

Osloader is right before ' press space bar for..................' Now with the 30 sec timeout, my bootup actually enters Osloader where before with 0 timeout it wized by and I had to enter it by going into the hardware profiles (with spacebar) and then F3 to go back to previous screen which is the OSloader.
Another indication that that shortened boot.ini was created by Jon is that the osloader always wiz-ed by and I always wondered what it was and how to access it. I think that little boot.ini was with me from the beginning.
