Chris and I call them "houses on steroids." I can't understand the concept, it is as if aliens have started building neighborhoods, and I don't mean the kind with green cards.
I won't commit the sacrilege of breaking up a big lot. Someone else will. I don't have a prayer of convincing Chris to go for it. For $450K we could get a much nicer house on five acres just outside the Beltway, something with a gourmet kitchen and jaccuzi and pool, and all the bells and whistles. Maybe even a tennis court or stable. This house hasn't been remodeled since it was built, it needs thousands of dollars to get it looking nice, the yard is seriously gone to hell, and its only nice feature is the size of the lot. Someone may be willing to spend $450K on it as it is, then another $50K or more to remodel it, and another $20-30K to tear down the rotten sheds and grade the driveway and landscape it.
I found a house I really wanted that cost $300K, on one acre just south of Fairfax, a very nice house, recently remodeled, which Chris said was too far from his work. So that is our frame of reference. |
