Off topic (sort of)...

Frank, all,

Hope you don't mind if I take advantage of your expertise!

At my company (a nationwide data service company a la PSI, Frontier etc), we're deploying a large (60,000 port) wholesale dial platform and having a lot of success pre-selling ports. The business model is pretty profitable but would be far more so if we were able to take advantage of IMT (intermachine trunk) pricing instead of telco PRIs. I know this requires deployment of SS7 in our network and we have a Nortel box on order to do that (don't ask me which, I'm just doing the business case!) Anyway, the engineers and product development guys say it will be relatively easy to get IMT pricing once we have SS7 deployed. I have serious doubts. First, I have to imagine the regulatory hurdles are severe. Second, why would an ILEC making $25/month for a PRI willingly cut that to $5-$10 for an IMT just because we ask them to recognize that we have SS7.

Any thoughts on what we will face in making a transition to IMT pricing, and workaround solutions such as working with CLECs?

Again, the product looks good but I need to separate the fact from the hype for being able to get IMTs.

I realize this is off topic but this thread has all the experts so I thought I'd take advantage. If you prefer to answer in private that's fine.

Regards,

Phil
