Yes, a 300MHz chip would be a threat.

It would also need a 64K cache. Intel hasn't announced plans to market such a chip because it would require a 0.25 process. They haven't perfected that process yet, but in the long term it represents the greatest threat to AMD. Intel could also produce other high-performance parts after they perfect the process.
