I don't think our immigration policy is "open door". At least
not the one that you and I know of. The party became the majority
in Congress and low and behold all the legal immigrants lose
all the benefits even though they continue to pay income taxes
and social security. Didn't Americans decide to declare independence
because of "taxation without representation"? There have been
numerous studies to show that in general new immigrants put into
the system much more than they take out. We always have a net gain
in their coming here. I raised many questions inside the party
before deciding to leave because the party did not give me adequate
answers. (My key question was to allow legal immigrants to not pay
social securities because they don't have benefits.)

Regarding environmental
impacts, isn't it a long running issue against immigrants? Was it
an issue a century ago? 50 years ago? Have this country become
better and better regardless of our immigrants? Some might even
argue we are becoming better because of our continuing acceptance
of new comers. I don't think we've exhausted our capacity for more
people here. We have probably one of the lowest population density.
I suspect that if your family came here within the last 100 years,
your ancestors might have heard arguments along the environmental
line against them.

I continue to hope that we will never slam the door shut to new
comers.
