Globe says Epic Data chief resigns after disappointing quarter

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 edition that Epic
Data International president and chief executive officer John Anderson has
resigned, almost two weeks after the software maker posted
lower-than-expected first quarter earnings. The Globe's Mark Evans writes
that Mr. Anderson, a self-proclaimed turnaround artist whose management
style triggered an exodus of staff, will leave the company after a
successor is appointed. The closing chapter of Mr. Anderson's 18-month
tenure at Epic Data was apparently written Feb. 2 after Epic Data said
first quarter profit fell 15 per cent to $969,000 or 9 cents a share in the
period ended Dec. 31 from $1.14-million or 15 cents a year earlier.
Analysts expected Epic Data to make about 16 cents a share. Mr. Evans
writes that Epic Data's troubles resulted from the loss of experienced
people who had left the company in recent months. The issue came to light
when Epic Data lost out on a sizable contract with Block Drug, because a
current Epic Data customer wouldn't give a favourable reference.
