Running a computer without a UPS is just asking for the sort of problems you have been having. American Power Conversion is the best known name (to me anyway) in Uninterruptable Power Supplies. My advice is to pay a little more and get a 650. The local Staples carries them. So does Dell.

Back in the dark ages I had a Commodore 64 and every time the fridge or freezer or water heater kicked in the computer froze.
