Hand held from Compaq:
I watched a technology briefs section of Bloomberg yesterday
(Feb 15th, New York/New Jersey area) and there was
a short interview on a Handheld from CPQ. The guy from CPQ told that their device has longer battery (2 weeks?) and will have color display.
He did not give an exact price but mentioned a competitive range
($300 - $600). He did not mention what OS they are loading,
but given that CPQ and Microsoft are bed it must be Windows CE.
I take this news as both positive and negative:

Negative:
Large guys are very serious and more competition to Palm
plateform. Now the ballgame will be much hard as they
have a very strong marketing muzzle and name brand.
In my opinion COMS should also license their OS to main stream guys like DELL, HP, Micron, Gatway to get more foothold than going it alone.

Poitive:
Main stream players are getting into action means, more push towards this segment and hence the future is very safe. Only player missing is DELL. I read somewhere they may get into actions once a clear critical market share is estabilished by extant handheld players. This annoucement from CPQ will put more pressure on DELL and others to follow the suite. Given that scenerio it will be interesting
to watch who else will follow Palm instead of CE.

COMS turnaround has already started as of today IMHO.
