Harris and Zoom to Demonstrate Wireless LAN Products at Wireless Symposium '99 PRISM-enabled ZoomAir Product Showcases Wireless Solution Targeted At Small Business MELBOURNE, Fla., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Harris Semiconductor today announced that Zoom Telephonics will demonstrate at Wireless Symposium '99 its recently unveiled ZoomAir(TM) solution based on Harris' Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) PRISM® WLAN Chip Set. Zoom is one of seven Harris partners that will be demonstrating wireless networking products at the upcoming Wireless Symposium, February 23-25 at the San Jose Convention Center in Harris' booth #327.
ZoomAir's product demonstration at Wireless Symposium will consist of transferring MPEG video wirelessly through two PC notebooks. Zoom will also be demonstrating multimedia videoconferencing between notebooks via a Zoom/Video Cam(TM).
Zoom is one of Harris' recently announced partners that is bringing standards-based wireless local area networking (WLAN) products to small businesses through Zoom's extensive channel partners. For the first time, PRISM-based products are available through resellers and distributors, including Ingram Micro, Tech Data, and mail order catalogues.
The PRISM-based ZoomAir solution consists of three products: the ZoomAir PC Card NIC (Network Interface Card), the ZoomAir ISA NIC, and the ZoomAir Access Point Software. The ZoomAir solution features a 2Mbps data rate in the 2.4 GHz range and has a typical indoor range of 300 feet to 1,000 feet outdoors. The cards are available now at a retail price of approximately $299 each and a retail price of approximately $199 for the access point software.
