OT***OT
Probart, I haven't read every single post this weekend (but I've tried) and I don't think anyone has mentioned this as a possible source of your headaches (and even though I am long Dell, I sympathize with anyone who spends thousands of dollars on a product and it doesn't function properly, no matter what).
Now this may sound stupid compared to the other high-fallutin suggestions, but my best friend had a problem that sounds very similar to what you describe. He had a high-end gateway, but a low end mouse. In some instances, if he even touched the mouse, the computer froze. It took us forever to figure out that it was the mouse (or mouse driver) and we still couldn't believe that it could be that simple. We uninstalled the mouse driver, as well as every other aux mouse driver we could find in windows, went out and bought a good microsoft mouse, plugged it in, loaded the driver, and voila.
Hope it's that easy for you. The other recourse you have, if Dell will not replace the machine for you is to ship it back to them and refuse the charge on your visa (I know it was a long time ago, but you have protection for such things with almost every visa card--call yours up, they will be more than happy to help you.)
Best regards, Philip |
