Actually, I got that information from someone in the DD industry - the quality standards ARE expected to be different. Even if data is also stored along with the video segments, it will never be the type of data that has to be 100% accurate every single time - it will never be mission critical. That sort of data will be burned into the hardware.

Look at it this way - if the program guide is wrong occasionally (but not TOO often), you're not going to cancel your service and toss the box. With a regular PC hard drive, if you lost data once a week, you'd trash the drive (and the company).
