To the best of my knowledge all flat panel displays are made by Japanese companies. Practically all the active matrix LCD's are made by Sharp. Fujitsu makes plasma panels. There is a company in Oregon, Planar, that makes an electroluminescent (EL) panel, but I dont think they are used in any laptops.
