Intel says holds 3.9 percent of Broadcom February 16, 1999 04:44 PM WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - Computer chip maker Intel Corp said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Tuesday it acquired a 3.9 percent stake, or 853,600 class A common shares, in Broadcom Corp BRCM , a maker of high-speed communications equipment.
Intel, located in Santa Clara, Calif., disclosed its stake in the Irvine, Calif., company in a 13G filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Filings under 13G are usually made by institutions and large investors with "passive" investment objectives in a company. Unlike 13D filings, 13Gs do not list the latest transactions.
Intel's filing reflects Broadcom's two-for-one common stock split earlier this month, effected in the form of a 100 percent stock dividend.
Last May Broadcom announced a collaboration agreement with Intel on a project to make cable modems easier to install and configure by incorporating the Universal Serial Bus interface standard to cable modem design.
