Mark - Re:"Are you going to sell your AMD and Cyrix stocks? "

Sure - one day, but not soon.

AMD & Cyrix still have an opportunity to increase their sales (K5 & K6, 6x86 & M2, GX) and help expand the PC market.

If they do, their earnings will improve (that is, go from NEGATIVE to less negative, maybe even positive).

Investors will reward their stocks with higher valuations.

However, longer term, Intel just turned up the belt speed on the treadmill and one of these two (Cyrix/AMD) will be gasping for breath once Intel ships real products with the Klamath and its successors.

One more thing - Intel wemt to great lengths to point out this 400 MHz Klamath is fabricated on thier 0.35 microm fab process - this one is pure CMOS, I believe. Intel has at least four fabs running that process today - Oregon (D1?), Fab 12 (Near Chandler), Fab 9/Fab 11 Complex (Rio Rancho) and Fab 10 - Leixlip Ireland.

Intel's ability to produce vast quantities of these should not be doubted.

And......not too far down the road, their 0.25 micron process will go into production. The clock speeds achievable on this process will be incredible, putting Intel into a horse race with DEC and Exponential for bragging rights as the "fastest" CPU in town!

Intel's future is hard to imagine. Good news upon good news! I am of course ignoring the recent analyst's down grades and their effect on Intel's stock. Long term, this will be lost in the noise.
